Opportunity for an experienced and ‘hands on’ person to manage product development and quality assurance for our jacket and pant/shirt offerings.  NYC midtown location.

Responsibilities – Product Development

  • Facilitate the evolution of each style from concept through shipment of production
  • Creation of and revisions to Tech Packs: sketches, photos, construction, measurements with appropriate tolerances and grading, performance standards
  • Oversee cost engineering of components and garments
  • Review component and garment construction for durability
  • Ensure each product is developed to fit and quality specifications and manufacturer capabilities
  • Facilitate and manage fit sessions
  • Monitor, maintain and distribute sample schedules
  • Ensure that marketing/promotional literature matches product specification
  • Provide collaborative, solution-oriented technical support to our suppliers and our sales team
  • Work with suppliers to resolve component and garment issues to assure commercial acceptability

Responsibilities – Quality Assurance

  • Work with suppliers to maintain a high standard of consistency in fit, construction and appearance
  • Make proactive judgments to request Wear-Test, Pre-Production and/or Top-Of-Production samples
  • Troubleshoot production quality issues and find solutions
  • Research and identify high quality component sources and garment suppliers
  • Ensure that
    • Suppliers meet product compliance guidelines
    • Each product meets minimum performance standards
  • Establish standards and manage testing performance
    • Examples
      • Water penetration -
        • Water-proof: AATCC-127, Water-resistant: AATCC-35, Water-repellent: AATCC-22)
      • ANSI/ISEA standards
      • FTC labeling requirements
  • Approve sample and production component shades
  • Maintain component and garment reference libraries

General Requirements

  • Must be exceptionally organized with a high level of attention to detail and have a strong sense of timeliness and urgency.
  • Must have the ability to
    • Proactively trouble shoot and problem solve
    • Work accurately while calmly dealing with urgent problems
    • Organize and prioritize multiple projects
    • Multi-task in a changing fast paced environment

  • Experience
    • 10+ years’ experience in the garment industry
    • Knowledge of manufacturing, global supply chain and regulatory requirements
    • Positive vendor relationships and resources
    • Knowledge of textiles, especially wovens

Specific Requirements

  • Manage two spec/quality technicians in New York, work with US factory manager
  • Hours may regularly exceed 40 per week (with occasional extended hours)
  • Communication
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. Must have the ability to:
      • Communicate efficiently in a clear and concise style 
      • Effectively communicate to an audience whose English is their second language
      • Analyze and interpret technical material as well as government regulations
      • Present information and respond to questions quickly and concisely
      • Maintain a thoughtful and habitually objective viewpoint
  • Travel
    • Visits to current suppliers to assure their product meets standards
    • Visits to potential suppliers to evaluate abilities
  • Computer skills: Fluency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook
  • Must have the capacity to -
    • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds
    • Sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
